Former England goalkeeper David James training with Exeter City
The veteran goalkeeper has enjoyed an illustrious career in English football and is looking for a new club after being released by Bristol City
David James is training with League Two side Exeter after being released by Bristol City last season. The 41-year-old who has enjoyed a 24-year career to date and has made over 750 appearances for seven different clubs has been looking for a new club after Derek McInnes decided not to retain him at the end of last season.
And Exeter boss Paul Tisdale feels that having James training with the squad could benefit both the player and the club.
He told BBC Sport: "David contacted us last week and asked if he could come and train and we were more than happy to help,"
"It can only help and it can only add some interest to the squad and the goalkeepers when they're training."
However, Tisdale was reluctant to suggest that the former Portsmouth man could join the squad, having already signed Rhys Taylor as back-up for first-choice Artur Krysiak.
He added: "I would hesitate to suggest that there's anything else in it from his part, or our part, but we're more than happy to help.
"No matter what you think, no matter what you try to do, if you don't train you'll go rusty and that's why he's here."
The former England international won the last of his 53 caps in the 2010 World Cup Quarter-Final defeat to Germany.
James saw himself move out of the international fold after Joe Hart's form saw him claim the regular spot under former England manager Fabio Capello.
