Lukaku: I want to spend my career at Chelsea
Young Belgian striker admits disappointment at his debut season at Stamford Bridge but hopes to force his way into first-team reckoning and become a star with the Blues
Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku insists he wants to remain with the club for his entire career after scoring twice in the Blues' 4-2 win over Seattle Sounders on Wednesday.Goal.com revealed on Tuesday that the Belgian is close to signing a loan move to Fulham and the youngster understands that he may have to bide his time before forcing his way into the Stamford Bridge first team.
Speaking after the victory against Seattle, Lukaku told reporters: "I just want the best for myself and for the club.
"If I can stay here at Chelsea and be part of the starting 11 and score a lot of goals for the club and make my team win, that’s good for me and for the club as well. If I go on loan on another team and score goals and make an impact, that will be good as well.
"I expect to be a Chelsea player for hopefully my career. I just need to work hard and continue to do what’s best for the team."
After an £18 million move from Anderlecht last summer, much was expected of Lukaku but the 19-year-old endured a frustrating campaign, failing to find the net in just 12 appearances.
He added: "It was difficult. You have the positive side and the negative side.
"The negative side is that I didn’t play as much as I wanted to. The positive side is that I proved a lot on my game. As a 19 year old, you want to improve each day and that’s something I did last year."
