Comfortable out wide, or up front, the former Chelsea youngster is set to undergo a medical ahead of his proposed move later today, with just personal terms left to be agreed.
It caps off a meteoric rise for the 21-year-old striker who, after an excellent season at Roma which saw him strike nine league goals in 24 games, went on to clinch a place in Cesare Prandelli's Italy squad for Euro 2012.
Roma have themselves just completed the full signing of Borini two weeks ago, after originally purchasing 50% of the player's rights from Parma back in January, taking their total spend on the player to £7m, but they look set to make a quick profit.
With Dirk Kuyt already having departed to Turkish club Fenerbache and question marks remaining over the respective futures of both Andy Carroll and Maxi Rodriguez, the signing will provide a welcome and timely boost as Rodgers seeks to bolster his forward ranks ahead of the new season.
