De Guzman lured to Swansea by Laudrup appointment
The Swans boss sealed a loan deal for the 24-year-old, and the Dutchman has revealed that the prospect of working with his former coach was a major factor in making the move
Swansea City's new signing Jonathan de Guzman says the prospect of working with former manager Michael Laudrup again was the determining factor in his decision to join the club. The former Netherlands Under-21 international played under Laudrup at Mallorca before joining Villarreal and is excited at the prospect of playing in the Premier League next season.
De Guzman revealed he had watched Swansea in action last season and his mind was made up once they appointed Laudrup as their new manager.
He told BBC Sport: “I know them from last season, they play very good football. Also my coach at Mallorca, Michael Laudrup signed here, it was pretty much a no brainer from there.
"He’s a very smart man and knows what he wants tactically, and he loves football. Once they came with the offer, I was happy to sign and I’m happy to be here."
The Dutchman has joined on a season-long loan deal but hopes to impress at the Liberty Stadium this campaign before looking on to the future.

"Right now we’re looking at this season, hopefully we’ll do well as a team because that’s important and hopefully I can contribute too," he added.
De Guzman says he already has a good knowledge of the Swansea team after keeping an eye out for the performances of international team-mate Michel Vorm.
"I was also watching because of Michel Vorm, he plays for the Dutch national team, so I had a pretty keen eye on them", he said.
