The French striker is eager to make a return to action in west London and is aiming to score more goals to put himself back in the frame with his international team

QPR striker Djibril Cisse says that he is looking forward to the start of the new season and having a chance to prove he can still play for the French national team.

The striker narrowly missed out on a place in France’s Euro 2012 squad back in June, meaning the 30-year-old could enjoy a rest from the game.

Cisse, however, is adamant that he wants to earn his place back in France’s national team, after he failed to secure a seat on the plane to Poland and Ukraine last month.

"I'm looking forward to starting pre-season," Cisse told the club's official website. "I've had enough of doing nothing - I think I need to start moving my legs!

"I was disappointed not be a part of the [France] team, but it's up to me now to fight and score some goals next season to get back into the squad.

"I was close [to making the team], but not good enough to be a part of it. I have to score more goals and then I think I'll be okay.

"I scored six goals in eight games last season, but on the other hand I had two red cards. It was good and bad.

"It could have been more if it wasn't for those red cards. But we [QPR] managed to stay up and that was most important."

When asked his opinion of QPR's new signing Andrew Johnson, Cisse replied by expressing his eagerness to train alongside the striker in the coming weeks.

"He is a really good player. He can score goals and he can run a lot for the team. He can make goals as well. It's a good signing.

"Competition is good for everyone. We're going to have to fight for our positions. For me, this is no problem.

"When you have a lot of good players, of course the team is better.

"It's up to the club now [whether they want to strengthen their squad], but we had some good players last season. It's up to the club to see if they need more players or not.

"It was important to build on the squad from last season, because if you want to improve and take the club to another level, you need some new players and you need some quality players - that's what the club is trying to do."

QPR have been quick to bolster their ranks so far in this transfer window, having already acquired Ryan Nelsen, Johnson, Robert Green, Samba Diakite and Fabio da Silva to Loftus Road, and Manchester United's Park Ji-Sung set to undergo a medical at the club on Monday, as Goal.com exclusively revealed.

"I'm looking forward to starting the season," Cisse continued. "It's always important to start the season well.

"Our first game is at home and we need to pick up three points. If we do start well, we can build our confidence and it's easier to do well in the season after that."

QPR get their Premier League 2012-13 campaign up and running in a home clash with Swansea City on August 18th.
