Rodgers insists he has full control over Liverpool transfers

Rodgers insists he has full control over Liverpool transfers

Latest Michu: I asked Laudrup to stay at Swansea now we are in Europe Previous

Since taking the helm at Anfield in June the Northern Irishman has not yet made any signings, but is confident the owners will let him identify his own summer targets

Brendan Rodgers is confident he has full control over transfers at Liverpool and believes he has already established a good relationship with the owners.

The former Swansea boss was thought to be close to sealing the signature of Gylfi Sigurdsson, only for the midfielder to opt for Tottenham despite playing under the stewardship of the Northern Irishman at the Liberty Stadium last season.

And Rodgers insists he is under no pressure from owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) to sign players, adding that he  identify his own transfer targets without input from the club’s owners.

"That was one of the key points for me coming in," Rodgers told Sky Sports News.

"I believe in communication, which is very important, so I have a really good working relationship with the managing director Ian Ayre, and he and I speak on a daily basis.

"They are getting on with doing the work, in terms of looking at the targets that we want to bring in.

"I am quite relaxed in relation to the type of targets I want to bring in."

Although FSG are based in the United States, Rodgers believes he has already built up a strong working relationship with the American owners, and is keeping in touch with them regularly.

He added: "With the owners I have got regular contact, and that was important for me, so there is a clear pathway for me to the owners. I like to communicate with them and it has been great so far."
