Official: QPR sign Rob Green on two-year deal
After choosing not to renew his contract with newly-promoted West Ham United, the England international goalkeeper is set to move to Loftus Road on a free on July 1
QPR have announced the signing of England goalkeeper Rob Green on a two-year deal. The 32-year-old is out of contract at newly-promoted West Ham United this summer and is set to move across London on July 1.
Green made over 200 appearances for the Hammers and held the Three Lions' No.1 shirt for the 2010 World Cup before falling behind Joe Hart in the pecking order prior to Euro 2012.
Green's new manager at Loftus Road, Mark Hughes, feels the acquisition of the 32-year-old is important as his side look to avoid a close-run relegation battle next season.
He told the club's official website: "It was important we brought another quality keeper into the group.
"Rob is obviously someone with vast experience at international and Premier League level and his pedigree speaks for itself.
"He's got all the characteristics of a top keeper and he'll be a huge addition for us who will stimulate the goalkeeping group, which can only be good for the squad as a whole."
The former West Ham shot-stopper is set to challenge Paddy Kenny for a spot between the sticks at QPR and revealed he is excited for what lies ahead.
"I'm delighted to be here,” he added. “I'm excited about the challenge ahead and hugely encouraged by the direction in which the owners and Mark Hughes are looking to take the club.
"It's an exciting period for everybody connected to QPR and I can't wait to get started."
