Vertonghen 'sorry' to see Redknapp go but still keen on Tottenham move

The agent of the Ajax defender expressed his client's sympathies for the recently sacked Englishman but insisted that his proposed transfer will still go ahead
The agent of Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen has said that he still expects his client to make the switch to Tottenham despite the sacking of Harry Redknapp.

As exclusively revealed yesterday the transfer for the 24-year-old Belgian defender remains on track regardless of the recent change of management at White Hart Lane.

And, despite failing to agree a transfer fee with the Dutch champions yet, the move to take the centre-back to London remains a high priority for Spurs.

Vertonghen’s agent Mustapha Nakhli spoke to the Press Associationabout the proposed deal and he remains confident that it will go through.

He said: “Nothing has changed at all. He is coming to Tottenham for the club and not for the manager.

“Managers come and go. Of course Jan is sorry that Harry Redknapp is no longer there but he is going for the club.

“We have a good relationship with Daniel Levy. He wants the deal to happen. I don't know when it will happen but it is very close.”
