Young absent from England training

The Manchester United man spent the afternoon in the gym after picking up a slight knock in Saturday's victory over Norway, with goalkeeper Jack Butland also missing the session

Manchester United attacker Ashley Young missed Tuesday afternoon’s England training session with a minor injury.

The 26-year-old scored the Three Lions’ only goal in Saturday’s 1-0 friendly victory over Norway, but picked up a slight knock which prevented him joining the session with the rest of the squad at Arsenal’s London Colney training ground.

Young instead spent time in the gym, with backup goalkeeper Jack Butland the only other absentee as the Birmingham City youngster is yet to return from his holiday in Mexico.

Danny Welbeck and Glen Johnson, Roy Hodgson’s other major injury concerns, were, however, able to take part in the session.

Meanwhile, Chelsea quartet John Terry, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard and Gary Cahill linked up with the squad for the first time after they were given extended leave following their Champions League success on May 19.

England take on Belgium on Saturday in a sell-out friendly at Wembley, with the national team set to depart for their Euro 2012 base in Krakow on June 6.
