Manchester United's Fabio could join Benfica on loan, says agent

The young defender has been struggling to secure regular first-team football at his current club, and could leave the Red Devils on a temporary basis in the coming transfer window
Fabio da Silva's agent, Cassiano Pereira, has revealed that the Manchester United defender could join Benfica on a one-year loan deal.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson revealed at the weekend that the Premier League champions are ready to farm Fabio out on loan, and Benfica could very well be the 21-year-old's next destination.

"There is the possibility that Fabio could go to Benfica," Pereira was quoted as saying by O Jogo.

"Alex Ferguson has already talked to me and Fabio about that possibility, and in the next two or three weeks we will make a decision."

Fabio has made 53 first-team appearances for United so far, but he has only featured 14 times this season.

Manchester United are believed to be keen to sign Benfica winger Nicolas Gaitan this summer, and they could opt to include Fabio in the deal in order to lower the Lisbon side's asking price.
