Football Association rejects Derry appeal over red card against Manchester United
The midfielder will miss the Hoops' clash against Swansea after the FA refuse to rescind his dismissal following an early collision with Ashley Young inside the penalty box
QPR midfielder Shaun Derry will serve a one-game ban after the Football Association rejected their appeal against his red card he received against Manchester United. The former Crystal Palace man was given his marching orders by referee Lee Mason after the official adjudged he had fouled Ashley Young inside the penalty area.
Replays appeared to show minimal contact and QPR boss Mark Hughes was incensed at the decsion which came in the early stages of the game.
After the game, the Welshman claimed that managers had lost faith with officials after a string of bad decisions.
“You should have confidence that the referees are going to make the key decisions in the game,” Hughes said. “Unfortunately, a lot of managers have lost faith in them.
“We’re desperately disappointed with the performance of the referee for the vast majority of the game."
Wayne Rooney went onto score the resulting penalty before a long-range Paul Scholes goal sealed a 2-0 win.
The ban rules Derry out of their crucial up coming home match against Swansea City as the west London outfit look for vital points to maintain their Premier League status.
