The Italian believes the Real Madrid boss earned respect during his spell at Stamford Bridge, with Blues fans chanting his name during their 2-0 FA Cup win over Birmingham City
Blues fans chanted the name of the current Real Madrid boss throughout their 2-0 FA Cup win at Birmingham City, with speculation linking him with a spectacular return to Stamford Bridge following the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas.
“Jose is part of the history of this club, he achieved so much success for the players for the club and he will always remain in the hearts of the supporters,” Di Matteo told reporters.
The Italian also thinks the players must turn what has been a disappointing season so far around for the club and their fans.
He added: “The players need to show the responsibility towards themselves, the club, the supporters, our boss, towards everybody, but it’s for their own good.
“I think it’s a collective responsibility, we have to share it when we lose and when we win, so everybody, players, staff. We are a happy family, everyone is happy, we won, we’re through to the next round of the FA Cup and everybody is very pleased.”
