Belgian side Genk have confirmed that midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has joined Chelsea.

The youngster has signed a long-term contract until 2017 but is to be loaned straight back to his former club until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old had been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge for many months but a move failed to materialise during the summer.

Goal.com exclusively revealed that the Belgium international was undergoing a medical with the Blues prior to a move reaching fruition.

Now the Belgian club have announced that the move has been completed and that the midfielder will return to Genk to finish the season before going to Chelsea.

The 20-year-old is believed to be seen as a long-term replacement for Florent Malouda, who has been linked with a move away from the west London club during the summer.

De Bruyne's arrival in the summer could also see Juan Mata play a more free role, as the youngster joins fellow international team-mate Romelu Lukaku at Stamford Bridge.

The deal that sees De Bruyne move to Chelsea is worth around £6.7 million.
