Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is being left frustrated by the club's unwillingness to sanction a big-name transfer this January and fears his side's title bid may suffer as a result, according to The Sunday Mirror.
The Italian is said to be a big fan of Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi but club officials are concerned that the 28-year-old will command too huge a fee to be viable ahead of the upcoming Financial Fair Play rules sanctioned by Uefa.
It is also claimed that Mancini would like to pursue Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic for a deal worth an estimated £25 million (€30m), but is being forced to curb his spending by the Etihad Stadium hierarchy as they attempt to establish a more sustainable financial model for the club with a view to the new rules.
However, Mancini is convinced that such frugality will have a damaging effect on City's title chances, and tensions are said to be high at the club ahead of their trip to face Wigan at the DW Stadium on Monday evening.
The former Inter boss has spent just short of £200 million (€240m) net on transfer fees since replacing Mark Hughes at the Etihad Stadium in 2009, and is hoping extra funds can be generated by allowing Carlos Tevez to join AC Milan on loan.
A permanent move for the Argentine fell through earlier on Friday but a temporary deal would help cut the club's wage bill significantly, with the striker currently earning £197,000-a-week.
