The Brazilian defender has come under scrutiny lately following some rash decision making, but his boss has backed him to improve and become a top class defender
The young Brazilian has taken time to settle into the English game since his big-money move from Benfica last January.
While the centre-back has scored almost as many goals as £50 million man Fernando Torres, his defensive performances have left a lot to be desired, conceding numerous penalties following some rash decisions.
However, his manager has jumped to the defence of the 24-year-old, describing him as a player with ‘amazing technical ability’.
Villas-Boas told reporters: “David is an extremely good player.
“He’s very quick, anticipates well and has amazing technical qualities. You don’t usually get central defenders with his technical ability and talent, so he’s an evolving central defender.
“He’ll evolve into one of the best central defenders in the world.”
