Tottenham defender Kyle Walker could not contain his delight after scoring the winner in his first north London derby.

Walker's long distance effort sealed a 2-1 victory against Spurs' bitter rivals Arsenal, but the England Under-21 star admitted his side had to work hard for their win.

"It doesn’t get much better than that does it?," he told Sky Sports. "I picked the ball up and I just hit it really, I scored one of them against Fulham for Aston Villa so why not take a chance?

"I just thought why not have a go, if you don’t buy a ticket you don't win the lottery.

"Arsenal are a good ball possession team and we found it difficult at times, but we dug deep and got the result that we wanted."

England coach Fabio Capello watched on at White Hart Lane as Walker put in an impressive performance, and the youngster said he hoped to make future England squads after missing out last time round when the London riots postponed the scheduled friendly against Holland.

He continued: "I wasn’t in the last squad and was a bit disappointed but it’s his decision who he puts in the team and hopefully I’m there."
