The Frenchman is sure the young goalkeeper will be a great signing for the club despite his recent errors and admits that he was upset that he missed the recent win over West Brom
Despite mistakes made against Manchester City and West Brom, Evra is convinced that De Gea will prove to be a great signing for the club but believes that the pressures of playing for United can be hard to come overcome.
"This is the way when you play for Manchester United – you have to accept the criticism. But I’m confident everyone is behind him and he’s a very talented player and I know he’s going to make it," Evra told Sky Sports News.
Evra missed the victory at West Brom as manager Sir Alex Ferguson decided to leave him on the substitutes' bench as he bids to regain full fitness, but the Frenchman expects to be back in contention for a starting place against Tottenham on Monday.
"I was really upset not to start [against West Brom] because I had a really good pre-season but it was time to take a rest," he added. "I had been out with my country playing for the French national team but I’m really pleased because the lads did a good job.
"It’s never easy to go there and get three points and I’m very happy. It’s true the first game I was really upset because that’s the first time I didn’t start the first game in the league but now I’m happy, I’m back, it’s four days of full training I’m just happy and hungry and excited to play against Tottenham."
