Peter Crouch Happy To Have Made An Impact For England Despite Defeat To France

Fabio Capello knows what I can do, says Spurs forward
England striker Peter Crouch is happy to have come off the bench to make an impact during the recent loss to France.

The two sides met in an international friendly at Wembley, where goals from Karim Benzema and Mathieu Valbuena saw the travellers secure a two-goal cushion before the Tottenham Hotspur forward halved the lead late on.

It was a quick impact since coming on as a substitute, as Crouch scored with what was only his second touch of the game.

"It was quite quick to get the goal and obviously I'm very pleased," he told reporters. "When you're on the bench, you hope for a chance and hope you can make an impact when that comes and, thankfully, I did that."

The towering hitman has a fantastic record with the national team, as he has scored 22 goals in 42 appearances. But he insists that he does not feel threatened by the new blood being ushered into the squad, as Newcastle forward Andy Carroll was handed a start.

"The manager was looking at other things and obviously knows what I can do," Crouch said. "I've been around the set-up for a while now.

"Pleasing to make the impact; obviously just disappointed with the result.

"I thought France in the first half played some great stuff to be honest and we had a little bit of a comeback at the end.

"Maybe if the game had gone on a little bit more, we'd have had a different result."
