Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez believes that winger Charles N'Zogbia is finally "ready" to be given a look in to the first-team.
The diminutive winger had previously been embroiled in transfer saga that involved the Latics accepting a bid for the midfielder - from Birmingham City - only for the move to collapse as the Frenchman remained.
Martinez had then maintained that the former Newcastle United man must prove to his team-mates that he still remains committed to the cause, if he should remain a part of the manager's plans for the remainder of the season.
And it appears as thought the winger has done so, as the Spaniard now believes that his player has regained focus as he looks set to play the 24-year-old against Sunderland over the weekend.
"I feel that whatever the thoughts were and whatever the different options were that he had to consider, that is well in the past," Martinez told reporters.
"Now he is ready, he is focused and all he wants to do is help Wigan Athletic to carry on being competitive.
"From his position, he is ready to show everyone that he wants to enjoy his football with us."
When quizzed as to whether the winger is currently in his thoughts with regard to the line-up he will field against the Black Cats, Martinez said: "He is, but not just because I'm saying it. It is the way he has been working in the last five [training] sessions."
The 37-year-old then shared his views on the past concerning N'Zogbia, blaming the duration of the transfer window as the cause behind all the problems - as the window stretches into the early stages of the season.
Now Martinez has called on the authorities to review the situation, so as to have the window close before the season begins. In the manager's opinion this would help every club in the league, as players would be focused on the new season instead of any potential uncertainty surrounding their future.
"I don't blame Charles, I just blame the situation," he said.
"I think the authorities in football should really look into it and we should help the players on the human side, to help them focus on concentrating on their jobs.
"Having the transfer window open while competition is going on is not healthy - it doesn't help anyone, not just Wigan Athletic.
"I think you could go in every single dressing room in the Premier League and in a different manner, everyone has been affected.
"It is important that the players have time to think about their futures and the next step for their families, and there is a period to do that in the transfer window.
"But it shouldn't be while competition is going on - it is disrespectful to the fans and devalues the league as a whole. We should close the window before the first game starts.
"But I have been delighted with Charles' attitude. He looks focused and concentrated.
"He made the final decision to stay - it wasn't imposed on him at all, so we have signed a new player."
