'Tired' Manchester City Striker Carlos Tevez Hints At Retirement From International Football With Argentina
Strain of club and country taking its toll...
By Harry Veal
Tevez was on the score-sheet as Argentina destroyed Spain 4-1 in a friendly in Buenos Aires on Tuesday, but he admits that he is finding it difficult to motivate himself to play international football.
"Every day, I feel further away from the national team and I don't know if I'll go to the 2014 World Cup,” Tevez is quoted as saying in the Telegraph.
"I'm tired. Tired of always being here, of fighting to be in the team. There comes a time when your body starts to drag you down.”
The striker, known for his typically energetic performances, also admitted that the physical strain of club and international football was taking its toll, causing him to question how much longer he can maintain both.
"The physical side doesn't help. I'm not here so I can get kicked and have to get up and continue for 90 minutes.
"I am at a club in which I have not won a lot and we have not won anything, but even when I was winning everything and I was a big player, I still had to fight with the national team.
“Today I have to keep on fighting and it gives me cause to stop and think about not playing [for Argentina] anymore.
"It's something I think about and I will do it one day, but it is easier to say it than to do it.
“I don't know if I have the balls to do it. I won't lie. I'm here more for the people and my family than for me."
