Official: Crystal Palace Sign James Vaughan From Everton On Three-Month Loan Deal
George Burley secures deal for youngster...
By John Elmes
Crystal Palace have completed the signing of James Vaughan from Everton after agreeing a loan deal for the striker.
The 22-year-old moves to Selhurst Park on a three-month loan deal and manager George Burley hopes to have the player available to make his Eagles debut against Reading on Saturday.
Former England under-21 international Vaughan had previously been linked with moves to Blackpool, Derby County, Sheffield United and Burnley after being made available for loan by Everton manager David Moyes.
The striker was hoping to secure a permanent move away from Goodison Park this summer, but Moyes wanted him to gain some first team experience before any permanent deal is agreed.
Moyes has been playing new signing Jermaine Beckford as a lone striker this season with the likes of Yakubu and Louis Saha in reserve, so positions in the squad have been at a premium.
Vaughan is likely to line up alongside Palace’s other new big name, Edgar Davids. The 37-year-old was coaxed out of retirement to play for the London club.
