Former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier will reportedly decide on Monday as to whether or not he intends to take up a role at Aston Villa.

A job vacancy at the Birmingham-based club was created when Martin O'Neill left the club only five days prior to the start of the season, following a disagreement with owner Randy Lerner.

Since the Ulsterman's departure Kevin MacDonald has been managing the club on a temporary basis, until a permanent appointment can be made. In the meantime, MacDonald has himself thrown his hat into the ring with regard to the appointment of O'Neill's successor.

Earlier reports pointed towards the club having been in line to make an offer to Houllier, with the Frenchman possibly being handed an executive role above the first-team coach, and The Sun now claims that he is set to decide on Monday concerning whether or not he would like to be a part of scripting the future at Villa Park.

It is believed that the 63-year-old is keen on a managerial role as opposed to a directorial role, but Villa are thought to be interested in leaving MacDonald to manage the affairs of the first-team instead.
