PFA chief Gordon Taylor believes that the Premier League must move further ahead with their plan to encourage 'homegrown' players.

According to the new system that has come into effect this season, all clubs must submit a 25-member squad that contains at least eight 'homegrown' players.

'Homegrown' players include those who have been trained for at least three years at an English or Welsh club prior to reaching the age of 21.

While Taylor believes that this is a positive move, he insists that the league must now go a step further.

"The new 25-man rule is a step in the right direction but it clearly does not go far enough," he said, according to The Sun.

"People talk about getting more home-grown players in squads. But I won't be happy until we have a rule saying that we must have two or three on the field of play."
