With Alan Pardew being dismissed after a poor start to the season, Southampton are looking to install a new boss to push for promotion, and Brown has declared his interest.
"Southampton would be a fantastic opportunity for someone who has the ambition to get back to the Premiership, so of course I would be interested," Brown is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.
Former Portsmouth boss Paul Hart has also been linked with the post, with Southampton chairman Nicola Cortese reportedly considering appointing him.
It is not a move that would go down too well with the fans though, with supporters singing anti-Hart chants during their 3-0 Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat to Swindon.
