Tottenham Hotspur's deadline-day signing Rafael van der Vaart says that he is 'happy' at completing his move to the Premier League, but admitted that he was 'fighting for something that was lost' at Real Madrid.
The deal to take Van der Vaart to Spurs was one of the biggest shocks of the transfer window, with Harry Redknapp making his move just hours before the deadline.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the midfielder stated that he was pleased that the move went through and was surprised with how quickly things moved once Spurs made their move.
"It happened so fast, we closed the deal yesterday," admitted Van der Vaart.
"They got in touch with me yesterday as well for the first time only a couple of hours before the deadline. Then it all happened in no time. I was happy, both clubs were happy, so now it's all good."
The Dutch midfielder was also asked about his time at Real Madrid, and suggested that he had become disillusioned at the club towards the end of his tenure.
"No not really, I was fighting for something that was lost, although I didn't feel like I lost.
"I played 58 games, scored about 12 or 13 goals and got a lot of playing time last season. But at a certain moment, you're done with fighting. You have to feel appreciated and respected.
"The relations with the fans were great but with the club, well not so much."
When asked whether he was leaving Madrid with any regret, Van der Vaart insisted that he was happy with the move and was just looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Premier League.
"No, I'm heading for a new challenge and I'm looking forward to that.
He continued: "I'm excited, the English competition is wonderful. I played in Germany, the Netherlands and Spain and now I get to play in the UK, it doesn't get any better than that."
