Lazio striker Mauro Zarate could be set for a return to the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur, according to tuttomercatoweb.

The player, who previously featured for Birmingham City, had a fantastic debut season on loan with the Bianconcelesti in 2008-09 helping them win the Coppa Italia. After being signed for the hefty fee of €20 million he failed to impress in the previous campaign though and was left out of the line-up on occasion by coach Edy Reja.

With the transfer window nearing a close, it's been reported that president Claudio Lotito is in London to negotiate a possible deal with Tottenham Hotspur for his transfer. The White Hart Lane outfit are looking to strengthen their attack ahead of the Champions League group stages.

Recent rumours have suggested that the Italians had turned down bids from rivals Fiorentina and an earlier one from Spurs themselves.
