Chelsea manger Carlo Ancelotti described his team’s performance as “nothing special” and insisted there is still more to come for the Premier League champions, despite their 6-0 victory over West Brom on Saturday.

Didier Drogba scored a superb hat-trick as the Blues cruised to victory and flew to the top of the table, giving the Baggies a lesson in finishing in the process.

Flourent Malouda had started and finished the scoring, with also midfielder Frank Lampard also getting among the goals.

But Ancelotti played down the victory. "We did our job, nothing special.

"This team can show this kind of play, scoring a lot of goals. We had a difficult pre-season, but now everything has come back to be OK.

"We played a good game with a lot of goals and I am happy.

"We kept a high tempo, but West Brom were in the game until the second goal, and then it was more easy because there was more space."

Ancelotti added: "Players who were at the World Cup can improve their condition and in two weeks, we will be 100%."

The Chelsea boss was also quick to praise last season's Golden Boot winner Drogba after his hat- trick.

"He did a fantastic job, not just because he scored, he worked really hard for the team," said the Italian coach.

"It is very important to have this mentality from all our strikers.

"Last season he scored a lot of goals, and he has started very well, I think he can do the same again."

Ancelotti has also revealed that his summer spending is over after seeing Brazilian midfielder Ramires seal a £17 million switch to Stamford Bridge on Friday, and said that he could feature next weekend at Wigan Athletic.

He also played down talk of his players being unhappy with owner Roman Ambromovich after the billionnaire slashed their bonuses for this season.

I have not spoken to the players about this, but I am not interested in it because it is a deal between the players and the owners," Ancelotti said.

"They did not speak with me about it and if I have to watch how they play, I would not say they are unhappy about it."
