The followers of new boys Blackpool and champions Chelsea will have forgotten all about England's struggles in the World Cup after seeing their sides crush Wigan Athletic and West Bromwich Albion respectively.
Chelsea in particularly impressed as they recorded a 6-0 victory over the Baggies at Stamford Bridge, which is the biggest win for any team on the opening day of the season in the history of the Premier League.

9-0 - the biggest win in the Premier League since it was launched in 1992. It was achieved by Manchester United in 1995 against Ipswich Town at Old Trafford.
8-1 - the biggest away win in the Premier League. Again, it was Manchester United, this time on their travels at Nottingham Forest in 1999.
