Ryan Giggs is adamant that Manchester United does not need to make a big signing this summer to win the Premier League back this season.

Contrary to arch-rivals Manchester City, the Red Devils has only made two signing this summer, paying £20 million for Chris Smalling and Javier Hernandez.

Some United supporters are frustrated that the team has been quiet in the transfer market, but Giggs believes that the team in good enough now to win a record 19th league title this term.

“We don’t need a marquee signing before the deadline,” Giggs told The Mirror.

“We’re OK at the moment. The quality of the players we’ve got is very good. And we’ve got players coming back from injuries.

“We’ve also got young players who’ve gone out on loan and have come back stronger, fitter and will have benefited greatly from our pre-season tour of America.”

With young talent in the squad like Jonny Evans, Fabio and Rafael Da Silva, Darron Gibson, Nani, Federico Macheda, Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverly emerging, Giggs has challenged the youngsters to prove that they belong at United.

“On the pre-season tour we showed the young talent that was there.

“We’ve now got to build on that.

“They have set the standards and they’ll have to keep to that now. And I think they will, because their attitude is right. They train right and they prepare right.

“But we know we’ve got the talent here.

“Now we need to see if they’ve got the mental character to play for Manchester United.”

Preparing for his 21st season at United, Giggs is focused on winning his 11th Premier League title in what could be his last season with the club.

“I don’t think about setting records for how many titles I can get as a player.

“That will be something I look back upon and be proud of when I finish.

“At the moment I’m just looking forward.”
