Championship side Leeds United beat Mick McCarthy's Wolves at Elland Road on a day of very few pre-season friendly surprises as the new campaign draws ever closer.

Burnley 1-2 Stoke City

Stoke City have reportedly been linked with over 50 players during the summer transfer window, but Tony Pulis was able to turn his attention to more serious matters on the pitch as the Potters defeated Burnley.

Tuncay put Stoke ahead as his header found the Burnley net just after half-time, but the Clarets replied after the interval through veteran Graham Alexander, who converted a penalty after Robert Huth was adjudged to have held down Clarke Carlisle from a corner.

Michael Tonge earned Stoke the win 67 minutes into the game, but Pulis will have concerns over two of his players as Glenn Whelan and Rory Delap were both forced off through injury.

Stoke: Begovic; Huth, Shawcross, Faye, Higginbotham; Lawrence, Whitehead, Whelan, Delap; Sidibe, Tuncay.

Leeds United 3-1 Wolves

Newly promoted to the Championship and without striker Jermaine Beckford after his move to Everton, Leeds United were keen to show their credentials against Premier League Wolves.

Simon Grayson's side took a first half lead through Max Gradel, who picked up a loose ball before rifling home from 25 yards into the top right hand corner of the Wolves net.

The advantage was short-lived though, as Matthew Jarvis curled in a free kick with the last kick of the half, evading everyone including Leeds goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel en route to goal.

It took Leeds only two minutes after the break to restore their lead, however, as Lloyd Sam turned home a cross from close range, before Bradley Johnson beat Wayne Hennessey after connecting with a Neil Kilkenny free kick in the closing stages.

Wolves: Hennessey, Zubar, Van Damme, Jones, Berra, Craddock, Guedioura, Henry, Ebanks-Blake, Fletcher, Jarvis.

Leicester City 1-2 Sunderland

There was little joy for new Leicester manager Paulo Sousa at the Walkers Stadium, as Sunderland ran out the victors.

Fraizer Campbell's impressive pre-season continued as he struck for the Black Cats after just six minutes, while Leicester's own DJ Campbell had a string of chances but failed to score.

The Foxes were back in the game when Andy King equalised, and Steve Bruce was faced with more worries as the injured Anton Ferdinand was replaced by Phil Bardsley.

Jordan Henderson responded to hand the Premier League side the win, as his effort was fumbled in by goalkeeper Chris Weale.

Sunderland: Mignolet, Ferdinand (Bardsley), Richardson, Bramble (Da Silva), Turner, Cattermole (Zenden), Henderson (Liddle), Al-Muhammadi, Malbranque (Colback), F.Campbell (Waghorn), Bent (Jones)

Ipswich Town 0-1 West Ham United

West Ham United were able to round off a week dominated by transfer speculation surrounding Scott Parker with a victory over Roy Keane's Ipswich Town.

Carlton Cole was on target for the Hammers, as Ipswich 'keeper Brian Murphy saved a Luis Boa Morte header after Julien Faubert had crossed, only for the ball to fall to Cole, who bundled the ball home from inside six yards.

Less good news for West Ham was the potential injury to England defender Matthew Upson, who was replaced by Mark Noble during the first half, though the substitution could prove to be nothing more than a precaution.

Upson's fellow World Cup squad member Robert Green was in good form however, denying Tamas Priskin, Grant Leadbitter and Carlos Edwards.

West Ham: Green, Tomkins (Stanislas), Da Costa (Gabbidon), Upson (Noble), Ilunga (Daprela), Parker (Kovac), Dyer (Piquionne), Hitzlsperger (Barrera), Faubert (Spector), Boa Morte (Diamanti), Cole
