David James - Portsmouth
Portsmouth administrator Andrew Andronikou has revealed that goalkeeper David James has expressed an interest in managing the crisis ridden club.

This comes in the light of Avram Grant’s resignation as Portsmouth manager on Thursday, with the Israeli having reportedly agreed to a deal in principle to become the new West Ham United manager.

With Portsmouth now looking for a new boss, administrator Andronikou has maintained that the shot-stopper is unlikely to be handed the reins to the south coast club.

"David has expressed an interest in taking the next stage of his career into management," Andronikou told BBC Radio Solent.

"Albeit we believe it has come a bit too early to appoint him as manager."

However, the administrator confirmed that the England international will have a huge say in things that will come to pass at the financially struggling outfit.

"I believe he will have an input into the decision going forward," said Andronikou.

"I think everyone has an input into what is going to happen, but the David James question is very much core to our decision making."

Meanwhile, after enduring a difficult season at the club, Grant remained full of praise for Portsmouth and their fans after announcing his resignation.

“This was one of the most difficult decisions I’ve had to take in my career,” he said. “After a lot of soul-searching, and under the circumstances, I’m taking a different direction.

“It has been a difficult and complex year for us, but at the same time, it has been a wonderful and uplifting professional and personal experience. I have been inundated with letters and emails from fans. Many have brought tears to my eyes.

“I will never forget you, the loyal fans of Pompey who helped me protect the team under such complex circumstances. There are few teams in the world that have fans as passionate and devoted as you are.

“It has been a great experience to be part of one of the most wonderful occurrences that has happened in the history of British football and also shows that even in the most desperate times, loyalty, devotion, professionalism and passion can be demonstrated.”
