Los Angeles Galaxy and England midfielder David Beckham has confirmed that he is targeting September as a realistic return date following the Achilles injury he picked up back in March.

The ex-Manchester United star suffered the injury during his most recent loan spell with Italian giants AC Milan and had his 2010 World Cup dream decimated as a result.

The 35-year-old former Real Madrid man, who has since suggested that he could travel with the Three Lions squad to South Africa in a coaching capacity, insists that he is eyeing a September return to action which incidentally marks the start of England's Euro 2012 qualification campaign.

"Hopefully I'll be back before the start of September," Beckham told BBC Sport.

"I think I'm ahead of schedule by a few weeks, so it's going well, although it's still a long road."

Beckham had been working towards appearing in his fourth World Cup this summer and although he wasn't expected to make a full recovery until at least November, the LA Galaxy midfielder reiterated his desire to make a comeback before the start of September.

"I've still got a while to go before I even run again so it's going to take time. I can't rush it. It needs to heal and I need to make sure it's right," he added.

"I said a couple of weeks ago it would be November but the way it's going, if it continues to go well - and I'm sure there will be setbacks along the way - hopefully I'll be back before the start of September."
