thumbnail Hello,

Rampant Reds sweep past lacklustre Hammers...

By Neil Jones at Anfield

LIVERPOOL

Pepe Reina - 7 - Handling was spot on, and he was sharp to deny Cole at 3-0.

Glen Johnson - 7 - A little wasteful early on, the former Hammer grew in stature and marauded down the right flank with aggression and purpose.

Jamie Carragher - 7 - Swept up eveything and led the backline superbly.

Sotiris Kyrgiakos - 8 - Missed a very good headed chance in the first half, but defensively was very solid again and made amends with his involvement for the third goal.

Daniel Agger - 7 - The Dane is a class act, even out of position. Nobody got past him and he never once looked uncomfortable.

Lucas - 6.5 - Sluggish early on, improved quickly, though in truth he didn't have to do anything special.

Steven Gerrard - 8 - Started slowly, but delivered the free-kick from which Benayoun opened the scoring, and another for the third goal. Looked strong and powerful, and deserved his ovation when replaced by Mascherano.

Maxi Rodríguez - 8 - Crossed for Ngog to make it 2-0 and used the ball neatly throughout. Earned himself a song from the Kop, to the tune of 'Heartbeat'.

Dirk Kuyt - 7 - Grew into the game after a slow start. Involved in plenty of tidy moves and worked himself into the ground.

Yossi Benayoun - 8 - Booed by the Hammers fans who used to cheer him, but answered them with the opening goal, and was then heavily involved in the second.

David Ngog - 7 - Swept home Liverpool's second goal with confidence, as he stepped into Fernando Torres' boots with relish.

Substitutes

Javier Mascherano - 6 - Came on for Gerrard with 20 minutes to go.

Ryan Babel - 6 - Late sub for Ngog.

Philipp Degen - N/A - Came on late for Benayoun.

WEST HAM UNITED

Robert Green - 5 - Will be disappointed with his inability to keep out Ngog's goal. Made a couple of half-decent stops from Maxi and Kuyt, but was unlucky to see Kyrgiakos's effort rebound off the post and in off his leg.

Julien Faubert - 6 - Neat and tidy on the ball, but tendency to look too long too soon cost possession on too many occasions. Booked late on for a lunge on Maxi.

Manuel Da Costa - 5 - Hurried a few clearances and looked a little uncomfortable.

Matthew Upson - 5 - Beaten to the punch by Ngog for the second goal, and by Kyrgiakos for the third.

Jonathan Spector - 5 - Didn't get tight enough to Maxi in the first half and allowed too many crosses from his flank.

Valon Behrami - 5 - Looked a little lost out on the left wing and was starved of possession.

Radoslav Kovac - 5 - Had the better of the opening exchanges, and worked extremely hard, but not enough quality on the ball. Booked for a shove on referee Peter Walton.

Mark Noble - 6 - Typical grit and determination masked his inability to influence the game going the other way

Junior Stanislas - 5 - Lots of promise but lacked an end product from his raids down the right. Replaced at half-time by Franco.

Ilan - 6 - The hero of recent weeks could not reproduce his efforts as he saw precious little of the ball.

Carlton Cole - 6 - Had a couple of noteworthy efforts in the first half, and drew a save from Reina in the second. Taken off for McCarthy.

Substitutes

Fabio Daprela - N/A - Late sub for Spector.

Benni McCarthy - N/A - Arrived too late in the game to do anything.

Guillermo Franco - 6 - Half-time replacement for Stanislas, he slipped Cole in with a fine pass.
