Frank Lampard makes Villa pay the penalty in emphatic demolition...CHELSEA
Petr Cech - 6 - Was never likely to prevent Carew's equaliser. Had a few sloppy moments but was otherwise solid in a game where most of the action was at the other end.
Yury Zhirkov - 8 - Ashley Cole would have watched this performance approvingly. The Russian was slack to let in Carew for his goal, but made up for that with some rampaging attacking play that won not one but two penalties and set up countless attacking opportunities. Impressive.
John Terry - 7 - Made one impressive tackle on Delfouneso in the second half. Played Carew onside for his strike, but made up for that over the course of the game with a solid display.
Alex - 6.5 - Ably assisted Terry in dealing with Carew and Agbonlahor for much of the match.
Paulo Ferreira - 6 - Was uncharacteristically clumsy in the tackle, picking up a booking and risking drawing a second on a couple of occasions. But was otherwise dependable, especially assisting upfield.
John Obi Mikel - 6.5 - Easy afternoon for the Nigerian, who fed the ball around and let his team-mates do the rest. Was smart defensively but in the second half Villa's resistance dropped off dramatically.
Frank Lampard - 9 - Ran the show for much of the game, was allowed to play much further forward and reaped the rewards with four goals and an assist. Can't ask for much more than that!
Joe Cole - 7 - Was an invaluable asset for his side, had a number of good moments down the right and will hopefully have earned further opportunities from his manager in the near future.
Deco - 7.5 - His cultured pass for Malouda's first goal was a joy to behold. The Portuguese international has been poor for much of this season, but seems to be hitting real form at the perfect time.
Florent Malouda - 8.5 - Constant threat when in attack, the Frenchman really is virtually unstoppable these days. Two well-taken goals were the least he deserved after yet another scintillating display.
Nicolas Anelka - 7 - Surprisingly asked to lead the line on his own, the Frenchman took to the task with glee. His incisive running and through balls opened up the Villa defence, although he failed to find the scoresheet himself.
Michael Ballack - 6.5 - Return after slight injury concern very welcome. Played a solid portion of the second half.
Salomon Kalou - 7 - Late arrival still left him time to score first league goal of the campaign.
Patrick van Aanholt - 6.5 - Home debut following midweek club debut. Dream week for the promising young defender.
Brad Friedel - 5.5 - Was given no chance by Lampard by both penalties, and similarly would have done well to keep out the other five strikes at goal.
Stephen Warnock - 6 - For what it is worth, Chelsea were less of a threat down the right than the left. But nonetheless, Cole got the better of Warnock on a few occasions throughout the game.
Richard Dunne - 4.5 - Horror show from the Irish central defender, who just couldn't prevent Chelsea from creating chances at will.
James Collins - 4.5 - Was caught out by Zhirkov for the Blues' first penalty, and overall this was an unsure performance from a defender who has been in great form since joining the club.
Luke Young - 5 - Zhirkov and Malouda both enjoyed stellar games, and Young could do nothing to stop them as they rampaged up and down the flanks.
Stiliyan Petrov - 6 - Put in a number of important tackles in midfield, but couldn't stop Lampard breezing past him to score his collection of goals.
James Milner - 6 - Not the best game for the young Englishman, who was caught out defensively on a couple of occasions. Showed glimpses of a threat going forward, but nothing the home side couldn't deal with.
Steve Sidwell - 5 - A real struggle for the midfielder, unsurprisingly considering the circumstances. Points for effort but little more than that.
Ashley Young - 6 - Quality cross gave Carew the easiest of chances to get an equaliser — which at the time gave the Villans cause for optimism. But faded as the game went on.
John Carew - 6.5 - Holding up of the ball was generally good, although he struggled to relieve the pressure on his side throughout the game. Took advantage of some slack Chelsea defending to capitalise on Young's good cross.
Gabriel Agbonlahor - 5 - Pace never really threatened the Chelsea backline like it should have done. Was withdrawn early after really not showing enough for his side.
Nathan Delfouneso - 6.5 - Had a couple of lively moments — looks a few goals away from being a quality asset for his side.
Habib Beye - 5 - Brought on to stop the defensive bleeding. Didn't quite manage that.
