Fabio Capello: Psychology Is What Makes Managing England Different
Mental preparation of players is paramount...
By Zack Wilson
The Italian has highlighted what he sees as the differences between international and club management, with the creation of a 'group mentality' absolutely paramount when the squad does not train together on a daily basis.
"It's more of a psychological job you do when you only have a short time to train," he said, speaking in Abu Dhabi at the Laureus Sports Awards.
"It's more important to train the mind, to find confidence, create a group, create a winning mentality. Before the World Cup when you have more time, you can train every day, you can improve and find different solutions.
"Like club managers who train every day you can find different styles and you can find the solution quickly."
The variable factors that come into play at international level due to the length of time between games are also a challenge that Capello feels is very different from the way things happen at club level.
"Sometimes, after one (England) game I study what really happened and when I decide the next squad some player who was important is injured," he added.
"For this reason it is a completely different job."
