Jamie Carragher Becomes Guest Editor Of Liverpool Magazine
Veteran defender swaps the pitch for the office...
Liverpool's problems on the pitch have been debated long and hard in the aftermath of Monday night's crushing defeat at Wigan Athletic, but for veteran defender Jamie Carragher, there have been headaches of a different kind.
The 32-year-old swapped the Anfield dressing room for the editing suite this week, as he became guest editor for popular Reds magazine LFC Weekly.
The Bootle-born defender, a self-confessed football fanatic, says he was delighted to lend his skills to the publication, though admits he can expect a dressing-room ribbing for the cover photo, which shows him casually reclining in his editor's chair.
"Sometimes before a game Pepe [Reina] will ask me a question from the [matchday] programme," said Carragher. "He always asks me the one he thinks I won’t get. So in my edition of the mag I’ve included something special for him.
"And as for the picture of me on the cover, I know the lads are going to rip me for that, but it wasn’t my idea!"
LFC Weekly editor Steve Hanrahan revealed how Carragher - who has made more than 600 appearances for the Reds - had the magazine's team in stitches with his tales from the dressing room, and said the former England man took his temporary role "very seriously".
"Carra was a very enthusiastic editor and took the job seriously," he said. "But he also made our team laugh with his stories and opinions.
"Every Reds fan will want to see how he stamped his personality on Liverpool Football Club's official magazine."
The magazine features insight from Carragher on life at Anfield, and there is plenty of light-hearted content, considering the Reds' awful campaign so far.
New signing Maxi Rodriguez is interviewed, despite Carragher admitting the Argentine winger "has barely said a word to the lads yet", whilst winger Albert Riera is given a mocking lookalike. Carragher - a boyhood Everton supporter - even reveals why Merseyside derby games are the most important to him.
LFC Weekly is on sale Tuesday 9th March 2010. Subscription is available on www.liverpoolfc.tv/match/magazine.
Sport Media are the official publishers of Liverpool Football Club producing LFC Weekly, This Is Anfield matchday programme and all official books and magazines.

Here's the thoughts of Benfica coach Jorge Jesus, who felt his side deserved a point from the game.
"They were the better team on the night and that's the story of the day.
"We have to keep fighting, pick ourselves up, get the confidence back and challenge in the other competitions and in the second leg of this tie too.
"They punished us on every occasion; they scored some quality goals and they deserved to win."

“The score made it look like it was an easy game, but it certainly wasn't.
(Strange... it looked pretty easy from where I was sitting, but hey.)
“I do not think it's over yet. I remember a clash between Milan and Deportivo la Coruna when Milan was also ahead by four goals, and in the end Deportivo eliminated Milan.
“I went into the Arsenal dressing room after the match to speak to Robin van Persie. I had agreed with him to swap shirts – my sons are big fans of his and he brought two for them. They will be delighted.
Van Bommel went on to talk about a possible move to PSV in the future, but was quick to point out his terms for the move.
“I've spoken with PSV, but we don't have an agreement yet. The club has to decide what they want.
“If Louis van Gaal turns out to be the new coach, I won't go.”
"Tonight everything went in the right direction and we did a very good match. You don't start a match thinking to win 4-0, but at the end i think we deserved it coz we played very well."
