Manchester United midfielder Anderson will remain sidelined for six months, after successfully undergoing surgery in Portugal.

The Brazilian had to be substituted in the first half of the 3-0 victory over West Ham United last month, and it was later revealed that the youngster had damaged his cruciate ligament in the game and would be sidelined for a significant period of time.

"The operation was a success and without any complications," said Portuguese specialist, Jose Carlos Noronha, according to The Mirror.

"If all goes well in his rehabilitation then he could return to training without any restrictions in six months."

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson had previously confirmed that the midfielder will remain sidelined for the remainder of the season.
