Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill has conceded that Wayne Rooney will be difficult to contain when Manchester United visit Villa Park on Wednesday.

The former Everton striker is currently at the top of the goal scoring charts with 21 goals to his name this season, and has been in scorching form in recent weeks helping the Red Devils to four victories on the trot.

"He's playing brilliantly and as I said he's a brilliant footballer and has been for quite some considerable time now," O'Neill said, according to Sky Sports.

"You could see that in his very, very early days at Everton and he is definitely maturing into a wonderful player.

"He's got a fantastic attitude as well and I think that is almost as important as his ability and he will be hard to handle."

However, the Irishman insists that his side have enough quality to hold their own against the current champions of England.

He added: "But we've got one or two players ourselves in terms of having ability that will cause Manchester United a few problems."
