Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand Found Guilty Of Violent Conduct; Banned For Four Games
Defender to miss Sunday's clash with Arsenal...
By James Daly
Ferdinand had denied the charge relating to an incident on Saturday when he clashed with Hull City's Craig Fagan and appeared to swipe the forward in the face.
The commission decided Ferdinand was guilty and handed him an immediate three-match ban, announced the FA on their official website.
Ferdinand's decision to deny the charge allowed him to play in United's League Cup semi-final on Wednesday night with Manchester United, but the commission was not impressed.
They decided that denial was frivolous and added an extra game to the initial three-game ban.
A statement read: "The Independent Commission felt that the player’s denial of the charge was frivolous and on that basis have awarded an additional one match ban upon the statutory three match ban awarded for violent conduct."
Ferdinand will miss his side's Premier League clash with Arsenal on Sunday, followed by the visit of Portsmouth the following Saturday.
He will also sit out the trip's to Aston Villa dn Everton.
