Sol Campbell Wants To Emulate Milan Legend Paolo Maldini At Arsenal
Returning Gunner hopes to play for many years yet...
Having recently agreed to rejoin Arsenal on a short-term contract, Sol Campbell has revealed that he plans to play on well beyond the summer of 2010.
The 35-year-old said in The Mirror: “My dream is to stay on past the end of the season, but who knows? The hard work was getting to this position, but the real work starts now.
“If Arsenal keep training me like this, then I think I can carry on for another two, three years, real good quality.”
Campbell would not be the first high-profile defender to stretch his career to its absolute limit, with the benchmark set by two of Milan's most legendary figures.
“People like Franco Baresi and Paolo Maldini are an inspiration. If you look after yourself and you’ve got the determination, for me that’s the important thing,” he continued.
“The main thing is for me is that whenever I get a chance [with Arsenal] I want to bloody show what I can do.”
Campbell also nodded to a former Portsmouth team-mate and England colleague: “David James playing for England at 40 is an inspiration to me. But the main thing for me is step-by-step and go from there.”
