Notts County 'Project' Is On Hold - Sven-Goran Eriksson

More investment needed to give Magpies' ambitions wings...

Sven-Goran Eriksson has insisted he remains committed to the idea of turning Notts County into a Premier League club, but admits fresh investment is needed to get things back on track.

Setbacks have affected the Magpies' bid to progress in the last six months, while Middle Eastern backers Munto Finance have withdrawn from the club.

However, Eriksson is confident that any problems can be overcome soon.

"It's on hold [the project] at the moment unfortunately, because things went bad," the Swede told BBC Radio 5Live's 'Sportsweek' programme.

"But hopefully in just a couple of weeks it'll take off again. That's our hope. I still believe it is possible but what we need is money. It's not easy if you want to reach the Premier League from where we are."

Eriksson, the Magpies' director of football, has been linked with coaching jobs with the Swedish and North Korean national sides this season.

Yet the Swede maintains he is going nowhere as he looks to make one of the most ambitious projects of his career a success.

He added: "It's been too many bad things at Notts County during this six months, but hopefully in a couple of weeks time things will change. I could have taken Sweden [manager role] if I wanted but I was in this job so I said no to it.

"The challenge to take a club from 19th place in League Two into the Premier League is one of the biggest things you can do in football. Of course I miss Lazio and football and that level, but life goes on."
