Manchester City Manager Roberto Mancini: I Want Inter's Maicon & Barcelona's Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Mancini has his eye on two former players...
Recently installed Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini, 45, is looking to bolster his defence with the acquisition of Inter's hustling and attack-minded right-back, Maicon, 28.
The Brazil international is heralded as one of the finest full-backs in world football, yet Inter manager Jose Mourinho may be willing to do business with City as he has oft suggested in the past that the only reason prodigiously-talented Davide Santon, 18, has been restricted of game-time is because of the exemplary Maicon.
Maicon blossomed under the tutelage of Mancini, who was Mourinho's predecessor at the San Siro, and the Italian is eager to reunite that working relationship at the city of Manchester Stadium.
Mancini, meanwhile, also stated that, should City secure Champions League football this season, then a pursuit of Zlatan Ibrahimovic would also be likely.
He told francorossi.com: "If City finish in the top four we will look for players of the highest level. I would like Maicon," he said matter-of-factly. "With Ibra there's always been a rapport of great loyalty.
"He's world class. Which manager in the world wouldn't like Ibrahimovic?
"City is the best club in the world for an ambitious manager. There are very, very good players there but we must improve as it won't be easy to get into the top four."With the January transfer window set to officially open tomorrow, Friday, City have been linked with imminent moves for Ivan Cordoba (Daily Mail), Giorgio Chiellini (News of the World) and Giampaolo Pazzini (The Sun).
