Arsenal are reportedly set to make an audacious move for Manchester City striker Craig Bellamy in the January transfer window, according to The Sunday Mirror.

The tabloid claims that the Gunners are interested in the Welsh international who is believed to be unhappy at the current situation at Eastlands, following Mark Hughes’ sacking.

The 30-year-old was left out of the Citizens’ starting line-up for the 2-0 win over Stoke City on Saturday, although he did appear as a second half substitute, replacing Robinho.

New boss Roberto Mancini has since been forced to defend his decision to bench Bellamy and has insisted there is no rift with the player.

Yet that is unlikely to prevent speculation mounting about the striker’s future with the newspaper quoting a “coach who worked closely” with the player as saying: “Craig’s a warrior, just what Arsenal need.”

Arsenal meanwhile, are believed to be in the market for a striker following Robin van Persie’s ankle injury which is expected to rule him out of action until May.
