Manchester City Looked To Replace Mark Hughes During The Summer - Garry Cook
Only considering options, says Cook...
Manchester City chief executive Garry Cook has admitted that the club were looking at a Plan B for Mark Hughes as long ago as last summer.
The CEO maintained that the club harboured no intention of giving the Welshman the pivotal push through the exit door, but insisted that they needed to keep their options open.
"It’s important for the fans to appreciate the ambitions of this club and its owners," Cook told The Mail on Sunday.
"Before the season started we looked at the options open to us if we were in a position when we needed to look for a new manager before Christmas.
"Even at that point we looked at managers who could be available in a World Cup year and those who might definitely be available.
"We had no intention of replacing Mark Hughes but surely as a business we are entitle to examine all the options."
Hughes was relieved of his duties on Saturday and replaced by Roberto Mancini, the former Inter coach.
