John Terry's FIFA World Player Vote Revealed
Sky Sports claims to have the inside scoop on the captain's picks...
The recent FIFA World Player of the Year award was given to Lionel Messi, the runaway winner, but had John Terry had his way it would have been very different.
The Chelsea skipper voted for two of his teammates, Didier Drogba and Michael Ballack, in the top two positions, while he plumped for Andres Iniesta of Barcelona in third.
Given that FIFA require voting to take into account off-pitch conduct and fair play as well as technical ability, it could be argued that the captain was entitled to vote for two players whose professionalism he will know better than anyone.
However, it does call into question the validity of FIFA's voting system if there are no safeguards against what could otherwise be construed as a case of nepotism.
Meanwhile Fabio Capello, the England coach, went for Lionel Messi, Fernando Torres, and Gianluigi Buffon.
