Report: Manchester City Delayed Roberto Mancini Unveiling To Ease Arrival

Manchester City delayed the announcement Roberto Mancini's appointment as manager in order to ease him into the job, claims The Daily Mail.

Rumour has it that the decision to sack Mark Hughes was reached over three weeks ago, and it is believed that confirmation was withheld so Mancini would skip a tricky set of fixtures.

Despite being sixth in the overall standings, the club handed Hughes the pink slip following a 4-3 victory against Sunderland. The Sky Blues had in all dropped only two league games, which is fewer than any other team in the Premier League.

The 'Italian job' was reportedly delayed to ensure that the new boss did not start off his Eastlands tenure with tough clashes against Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

Instead, Mancini - who is said to be a friend of chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak - will kick-start his reign with games against Stoke City and Wolverhampton Wanderers, followed by a League Cup tie with Middlesbrough.
