Aston Villa Defender Carlos Cuellar Deserves Spain Call Up - Luke Young

Centre-back hitting top form for Villans…

Aston Villa defender Carlos Cuellar has a great chance of going to the World Cup with Spain according to his team-mate Luke Young.

Young has played alongside Cuellar in recent games and feels that the Spaniard is beginning to show his true qualities after acclimatising properly to life at Villa Park.

"We've been waiting for him to click into that top, top centre-half and at the moment he is playing brilliantly," Young told The Birmingham Mail.

"He is another outside bet for the national side for Spain and hopefully he will go as well. He is brilliant."

Young is also impressed with Cuellar's character, and feels the former Rangers man has adjusted well to the demands of the English game.

"He loves a bit of banter. He takes a bit of stick off the boys but he accepts it well and just has a laugh about it but he is a really good character and playing some great stuff at the moment," Young added.

"He said to me he prefers the English league to the slower sort of game in Spain. The style of play suits him more and that is to our benefit."

But Young was also keen to highlight the contribution of the whole side to Villa's current fine run of form.

"I think everyone has been playing well," he asserted.

"We have been playing good teams and everyone deserves credit.

"I've been playing centre-back which is good, I feel comfortable there.

"Richard [Dunne] is on fire. He is playing fantastic. I think we are helping each other. It is good because I learn from him and he can learn from me.

"All of the back four are playing well, though, and James Collins is on the way back – he is fantastic as well."
