Frank Lampard: Former Chelsea Team-Mate Gianfranco Zola Is The Man To Rescue West Ham United

West Ham United's three successive defeats in the Premier League have seen the club plummet into 19th place, two points adrift of safety, and Chelsea's star midfielder Frank Lampard has sympathised with the precarious position the Irons find themselves in.

The Blues travel to Upton Park this weekend on the back of their own underwhelming run, yet Wednesday night's triumph over Portsmouth  abruptly halted a winless streak. Lampard, himself a Hammer prior to his Chelsea days, does not want to see his old club doomed to the Championship.

"It's difficult for West Ham at the moment," Lampard said in The Daily Mail.

"They have a lot of financial difficulties and have had to sell a lot of players.

"I have a lot of respect for Gianfranco [Zola] and [Steve] Clarkey and I don't want to see them do badly at all," he added. "They're great lads.

"It's difficult but then it's a difficult League."

Lampard received his footballing education at West Ham's renowned academy, and was sold to the Stamford Bridge side for £11 million in 2001.
