Craig Levein Should Be Considered For Scotland Job - Walter Smith
Smith wants the job to go to a Scot...
Rangers manager and former Scotland boss Walter Smith thinks the role of national coach should be given to Dundee United's Craig Levein.
The two sides square up in the Scottish Premier League on Tuesday and Smith can see why Levein's name is being mentioned in connection with the job, which became vacant when George Burley was sacked in November.
"He came back to United just before I returned to Rangers. He's done a great job picking them up and it'd be a natural thing for the SFA to look at him."
Smith would prefer the job to go to a Scottish manager, and admitted that while his time at the helm of the Tartan Army was often frustrating, he enjoyed his time in the hot seat.
"My preference is for someone of our own nationality. I don't think it's essential, but it's something I'd prefer.
"The job can be a wee bit of a frustration.
"But overall it's a job with a great deal of prestige and I don't have any regrets about taking it.
"I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Scotland."
