Petr Cech Hits Back At Chelsea Boo Boys

Shot-stopper says fans have to cheer, not jeer...

UEFA Champions League: Petr Cech, Schalke 04 - Chelsea (PA)

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has responded to the supporters who booed his during Saturday's 3-3 draw with Everton at Stamford Bridge.

The Czech Republic international's performances have come under sharp focus in recent times, with critics suggesting that the 27-year-old has just not been the same since the head injury he sustained in 2006.

Cech was culpable for two of the three goals scored by the Toffees, though there was an element of luck on each occasion. But the fans took to taunting the 'keeper, who was less than thrilled with the reaction.

"I was very surprised to hear the boos from the crowd because this was our first Premier League draw at home all season," he is quoted in The Sun as saying.

"Look at the games we have played here, in the league, the Champions League and the Carling Cup and you will see all the clean sheets we have kept and all the goals we have scored.

"So I was really surprised to hear the supporters' reaction. Surprised because I don't understand it."

Cech maintained that he was not the only one to blame for the poor showing, and insisted that the blame fell on everyone involved in defending dead-ball situations.

He concluded: "We lost a lot of the first headers. But it is not an individual responsibility at set-plays. It is collective."
